Burner
Thirty days, one cheap phone, and a loan shark who charges by the night.
About this game
Vince fronted you five and a half thousand dollars and a phone with no contacts in it. He wants it back with seven percent on top, every night, and you have thirty days. Burner is a modern take on the classic turn-based street-trading games: six neighbourhoods, eight kinds of product whose prices swing wildly from one side of town to the other, a stash that only holds so much, and a month that runs out faster than you think.
The whole game is the phone. Market shows what everything costs where you're standing, with a sparkline of the last two weeks so you can see a bargain coming. Map moves you across town, and every trip costs a day and a fare. Texts is where your contacts live: Mags tells you where prices are about to spike or crash, and is never wrong; Dizzy texts more often and is right about half the time. Bank keeps your savings safe from cops and muggers and is where you pay Vince back, before his guys come to collect it in person.
Move too much in one go and your heat climbs, and heat brings blue lights. Run, bribe, give up the stash, or fight if you've bought a pistol. Rival crews want a cut, strangers sell hidden pockets and guns out of parked cars, and every sale builds rep in a district that buys you a better price there. Upgrade from a backpack to a duffel to a beater van, add a vest, a police scanner and a lawyer on retainer, and finish the month with the biggest net worth you can. Thirty, sixty or ninety days; anything still in your bag at the end is worth nothing.
