Snap Happy

A thirty-two stud baseplate, a tray of bricks and a satisfying click every time one goes on. Snap Happy is a toy-brick builder with lighting that looks like a product photo: glossy plastic that catches a studio softbox on every stud, soft shadows that sharpen where a brick meets the plate, and a tilt-shift lens that turns the whole table into a miniature.

Then it turns into a fight. Brick Brawl gives you a garage square on the baseplate and a little brick figure to drive. Snap on wheels, a chassis and armour, bolt a hammer, a spinner, a flipper or a pair of cannons to whichever side you like, and drive it out onto the table against eight rival machines, from a rattly orange Bolt Bucket to the gold-plated Brick Boss. Every hit knocks real bricks off. Anything that loses its studs to the rest of the machine falls away with them, so a good hammer blow can take half a wall and the driver behind it. Knock the other driver off or shove the whole machine over the edge to win. More wheels make you quicker and harder to push; walls around the driver keep them in their seat; cones on the front make a ram hurt.

Building is still all here. Everything snaps to the stud grid, rotates in quarter turns and refuses to sit on anything without studs to hold. Challenges come as glowing halftone blueprints, from a stripy wall to a lighthouse whose glow bricks light up the night. Wins and challenges pay out coins and new pieces, and coins buy booster packs of bricks, colours and lighting themes.
